The Topp Twins may be better known as their TV comedy characters but they are also very talented contemporary country singer-songwriters. Both their albums Grass Highway (2001) and Flowergirls and Cowgirls (2005) won Best Country Album and Jools Topp’s original song Tamworth won Best Country Song at the New Zealand Music Awards (2001-2006). Most recently the Topp Twins won the Country Music Group/Duo Award at the 2009 National Country Music Awards and were inducted into the New Zealand Music Hall of Fame (2008).
The Topp Twins deliver pure acoustic country with distinctive double vocal harmonies, that appeal to non-country music lovers as well as country music aficionados . Yodelling is part of the Topp Twins repertoire and Lynda Topp’s rendition of My Pinto Pony and I will surely bring a tear to your eye. She has been described as one of the greatest yodellers of our time.
…their comic throwaways should never disguise the fact that these two also happen to be superb singer songwriters and performers – Edinburgh Herald
The Topp Twins are a headline act most years at Tamworth, Australia’s premier Country Music Festival, have performed at major folk music festivals in Canada and Australia (Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Port Fairy and Woodford) and also do a wicked rendition of the blues.
